Beyond Books: Celebrating National Library Week in Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay Moms Blog Celebrate National Library Week in Tampa Bay

It’s National Library Week! Did you know that was a thing? Neither did I, but now that we know, let’s write the book on National Library Week in Tampa Bay!

“Libraries Lead”

National Library Week marks its 60th anniversary April 8-14, 2018, with the theme “Libraries Lead.” Seems like a fitting tribute to a place that leads us through so many grand adventures. Here in Tampa Bay, our libraries lead with services like classes, computer access, kids’ activities and more.

Free tech at the library helps you learn new skills or do some internet research.

With so much to explore, how about celebrating National Library Week in Tampa Bay with something new? For example, did you know two Hillsborough County libraries have recording studios? Maybe you’ll spark a new interest in vlogging or podcasting. You can learn to sew or pick up a new computer skill. And of course, the kids love story time!

Or, if you’re a techie, you can borrow books right to your e-reader. (I may have read the entire Harry Potter series this way.)

Love Our Library Workers

Each day during National Library Week has its own theme. This year’s list includes:

  • Monday, April 9: State of America’s Libraries Report
  • Tuesday, April 10: National Library Workers Day #nlwd18
  • Wednesday, April 11: National Bookmobile Day #bookmobileday2018
  • Thursday, April 12: Take Action for Libraries Day #fundlibraries

Does that spark some ideas? The kids can make a card for their story time leader, or hop aboard the Bookmobile. In addition, you can use those hashtags to help bring awareness to the issues facing our local libraries.

However you celebrate National Library Week in Tampa Bay, I hope your story is filled with fun and adventure at our local libraries!
