I was aimlessly scrolling through Facebook one day and saw a friend post about The Five Love Languages. She and her fiance took a test online to determine how they each preferred to express and receive love. I thought it was a really interesting idea. I immediately Googled the subject and found The Five Love Languages website. The website states “Your love language profile will explain your primary love language, what it means, and how you can use it to connect to others.”
I took the very short few minute test and found it enlightening and improved my self awareness as well. My husband took it shortly after me and while our love languages are different, it really helped us to be more understanding of each other’s needs and love communication.
Whether you’ve been dating six months or married for 30 years, I think that this quiz is worth taking. It could confirm what you already know or it could provide more understanding for you and your partner to communicate and love each other better.
Here’s some brief insight into the five love languages.
Words of Affirmation
What you say is most important to those with a high score for Words of Affirmation. Saying “I love you.” compliments, or words of encouragement or paramount.
Acts of Service
Actions speak louder than words for people with a high score in Acts of Service. Helping your partner by doing the dishes, folding the laundry or taking out the trash to help them out is high on their list.
Thoughtful gifts and remembering events such as birthdays or anniversaries is important for someone with a high score in this love language.
Quality Time means undivided attention and true connection with your partner. People with this love language can get highly annoyed with postponed dates or distracted conversations.
Physical Touch may seem self explanatory but it could simply be holding hands or giving a hug to show your love to someone.
If you and your partner are struggling to find something to do on date night, take a little quiz and discuss it over some wine! You can take the quiz online for free at http://www.5lovelanguages.com/.
