One thing that has always been a big priority to both my husband and I is having our children be active. Both of us loved different sports and dance activities as children and teenagers. Now that I have children of my own, I recognize how important it is for their little bodies to be moving as they get older. And aside from the health and coordination benefits, I won’t pretend I don’t love it when they conk out the minute I tuck them in bed because they are happily worn out. Since becoming a mommy, I’ve been looking for ways for my girls to meet new friends and stay active. And since our home is in Florida, where the temperature is routinely pushing 90 degrees, I knew I needed it to be indoors. So when this opportunity to try My Gym of Brandon came up, it was a perfect fit for us. We found the location of My Gym and I signed my three-year-old up for a trial class (I love that it is super easy to sign up for a free class so you can test it out before you pay) and on Saturday morning, the two of us set off on a little date for the Mighty Mites class.
Without a backward glance, my daughter ran into the gym and within minutes was stretching and then warming up to some peppy music. I loved that I could see the whole class from the comfort of a front seat, but I could also sit back and enjoy some time to play with my infant baby girl. When I peeked in at the end of the class, I was amazed at how many skills she’d learned in just an hour – I’d been worried that it might be too basic, but the teachers were really hands-on, helping the kids learn and then practice a wide variety of things. Of course, I was also impressed that as the children left, the instructors knew all their names, including my daughter on her first day, and complimented them on specific achievements and efforts as they departed. I really value classes that allow my kids to be active, gain confidence, and grow their social skills. That said, I also like to spend a lot of our time on unstructured play and usually limit activities to just one per season. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the My Gym of Brandon classes have a combination of unstructured play time as well as structured time. During the class the kids were giving “free” time to play with the equipment and then brought together for a specific structure activities. And I was glad to see that the age ranges are small so the teachers can really focus on the developmental abilities of that stage, rather than trying to teach to a wide range of abilities and ages.
My Gym has developed an extraordinary program and state of the art facility devised to help children 6 weeks thru 10 years of age develop physically, cognitively and emotionally. They and their newest location is in Brandon. Mygym offers structured, age-appropriate, weekly classes that incorporate music, dance, relays, games, special rides, gymnastics, sports and more. Mygym is committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and fun environment to foster learning, exploration and safe sensory experiences for even our tiniest ones. Each week, progressively structured classes and a positive learning environment create opportunities for your child to try new things and build self-confidence, all with a grin that stretches from ear to ear. Their classes also focus on growing their three key categories: physical, cognitive and emotional well-being. My Gym even participates in a building blocks program that acknowledged the kids for their efforts and achievements in these areas. I was fortunate enough to try one of the classes where they were presenting the students with their building blocks awards for those students who completed 8 weeks. Their age-appropriate activities for kids are designed to facilitate maximum fun and ongoing skill development through movement, music, learning and laughter. Your child progresses at their own pace, having fun and building confidence as they make new friends and develop new skills. Their classes start as young at 6 weeks with their Little Bundles class and go up to even Zumba for kids. It doesn’t hurt that the owner and staff at My Gym in Brandon are the nicest people that you could meet and they truly do care for the well-being of the kids.
As we walked out the door, my daughter said, “I loved that; can I come back tomorrow?” Now the only problem is choosing just one of their many classes. Go over to their website to check out all of the classes that are being offered and sign up for a trail class to find the perfect class for your little one. In addition, they also offer camps, and even birthday parties.
