Largo Movies in the Park

This month’s movie is Planes. Pack up your blankets and chairs to enjoy a movie on the lawn. On the second Friday of every month October-May The City of Largo Special Events division will feature a movie on the big screen. Movies will begin at dark and will feature a free family friendly activity one hour prior to the showing. While in the park you can also enjoy our NEW Farmers Market operated by Jen’s Market from 3-7pm. The market will be located in the parking lot just north of the movie field. Coolers are welcome (no alcohol). Concessionaires will be on site offering a variety of food and snacks.

Run-On Sunshine Concert

Run-On Sunshine is the one-man performance art/music project of one-time Tampanian Mike Mullarkey. After spending his college years at UT in the 90’s and documenting the indie music in his zine No Bare Feet, Mike picked up and moved out to Arizona where he began experimenting with solo performances at open mic nights and DIY punk/indie venues.

Kid friendly with plenty of songs about cats and sunshine.

For fans of Daniel Johnston, Malcolm Tent, Calvin Johnson and the more esoteric side of things in general.

St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital free high-back booster seat giveawayphoto (9)

St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is hosting a free high-back booster seat giveaway Jan. 10, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in recognition of Florida’s enhanced child restraint law, House Bill 225, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2015. The new law requires that all children use a child restraint until their 6th birthday, and a harnessed car seat is required until their 4th birthday.

Under the new Florida Law:

  • Booster Seats are not permissible for use until the child’s 4th birthday. Children should not use a booster seat until they are over 40 pounds and at least 4 years old.
  • A Booster Seat must be used with both a lap and shoulder belt until the adult seat belt fits correctly.
  • The seat belt should fit “Belt to Bone.” Over the shoulder and hips/lap, instead of the soft neck and stomach.

During the event, child passenger safety technicians will distribute free high-back booster seats (value of $40) and will provide installation assistance. Parents and caregivers with a child who has outgrown his/her car seat or isn’t currently using a booster seat but is now required to do so.

All criteria below must be met to qualify:

  • The child must be present.
  • The child must be at least 40 pounds.
  • The child must be at least 4 years of age.
  • The vehicle must be present.

Art Spot for Children


Every Saturday the Museum offers a free drop-in art program from 11a – 2p. Come and let your children explore their creativity by creating an art project. No registration required.  Our projects will vary week to week to tie into the exhibition on view at the museum.

This week’s project: Dot dot and stitch strokes. Participants will transform a B&W image into a textured painting with dots and stitch strokes.

Stargazing at Starkey

Young At Art – Student Art Exhibition


The Tampa Museum of Art will be displaying 175 works of art created by student artists from Hillsborough County Public Schools.  The work will be on display from January 11th to January 31st.

This Student Exhibition features the work of young artists in elementary and middle school.  The Museum invited Hillsborough County public and private elementary and middle schools to select one work of art to be featured in this exciting exhibition. The exhibition will be on view in the Golding-Scher Classroom and is free to the public.

Great Connections at Great Explorations


Beginning in 2015, join us for Great Connections, an event just for children with special needs and their families. The second Sunday of the month, Great Explorations will close to the general public from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., will modify lights and sounds, and will provide a “cool down” room for families who need to take a break.

FREE Yoga In The Park – Ongoing

Yoga Downtown Tampa and Tampa Downtown Partnership offer a one-hour FREE Yoga class in Curtis Hixon Park each week. This class is designed for all levels and is offered every Sunday at 5:00pm (at 6pm in winter months during daylight savings time change). If you have a mat or towel please bring it along with your water bottle to the north terraces. Come out and experience Yoga while watching the sunset over the city skyline in the beautiful Curtis Hixon Park!
