6 Things to Do with Kids this Weekend: Affordable Labor Day Celebration

Still searching for something to do with the family this Labor Day Weekend? Are you looking for some affordable options? Don’t worry. Tampa Bay offers so many cool activities for everyone.  There’s plenty of options from art exhibits to huge festivals.

Here’s a list of affordable ways to celebrate the upcoming holiday weekend:

Celebrate Oldsmar! (107 Shore Drive West, Oldsmar, Florida)

The community’s celebration takes place from 6-10 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. The annual event features live music by Soul Circus Cowboys as well as other bands. There’s also family fun activities like bounce houses and pony rides. Stay late to enjoy the fireworks. Most importantly, admission is free as well as parking.  Enjoy delicious meals from local food trucks and drinks from craft beer vendors. The Art of the Brick (802 E. Whiting Street, Tampa, Florida)

The world’s largest exhibition of Lego art will be leaving soon. You do not want to miss out on this cool experience. It’s free to the public and opens from 10-6 p.m. through Labor Day.  Although parking is not free, there are places that offer an affordable rate.  There may be a long wait, but it depends on the day and time you attend the exhibit. Also, umbrellas are available to those waiting in line to protect against heat or rain. I had the pleasure of visiting with my son and we had a great time. This exhibit is perfect for all ages. Backyard BBQ Festival  (10501 Palm River Rd, Tampa, Florida)

Bass Pro Shops will be hosting free and fun activities all weekend. The action starts from 12-5 p.m. each day.  Enjoy seminars on grilling as well as delicious food samples. Also, the first 25 people to show up to the seminars will receive a tote bag. There are some cool things at the event to keep the kids engaged. They will have a great time with the duck pond game and the fishing challenge. License-Free Saltwater Fishing Day (various locations)

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend by doubling the celebration. License-free fishing is held only a few times a year in Florida. Take the family out on a fishing trip either on a boat or visit a local pier this Saturday. It’s the perfect time for parents who don’t have a license to introduce the kids to fishing.  Not only do you have the chance to catch fish but you can also go scalloping. Largo Central Railroad (101 Central Park Drive, Largo, Florida)

The Largo Central Railroad provides free public runs of their miniature train on the first full weekend of each month. If you’re looking for a low-key way to celebrate Labor Day, this is a great option. Enjoy a scenic ride around the beautiful park with your family. Gulfport’s 17th annual GeckoFest (3129 Beach Blvd. S, Gulfport, Florida)

Explore this beautiful waterfront town and celebrate Labor Day with the largest festival in the area. Check out some amazing arts by local artists and other items for purchase. In addition, there will be strolling and stationary street performers to keep everyone entertained. Not only will there be themed live music but also a dance party.
