25 Daytime Date Ideas in Tampa Bay

Are you tired of making evening plans with your spouse? When was the last time you did something exciting? Finding the energy to go out at night can be hard for couples with kids or those who have a busy schedule. As a first time mom, I spend a lot of time and energy focusing on my son.  My goal for the new year is to go on more dates with my husband.  You don’t have to find things to do at night in order to have a great time. It’s nice to mix it up when it comes to romance. Going out during the day gives you the chance to try new activities.  Here’s a list of 25 “day dates” in the Tampa bay area. 

Tampa Riverwalk

  1. Visit the Tampa Riverwalk.Spend the morning strolling along the beautiful walkway. There’s many spots in the area to stop for a quick bite or take a break.  In addition, you can get in some great exercise and reconnect. 
  2. Hop on a trolley ride. Explore the downtown area of Tampa and Ybor City on the TECO Line Streetcar. You can also take a ride on the Suncoast Beach Trolley in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area.  Riding the trolley is a nice way to relax and explore the city with your spouse. 
  3. Take a tour of a local botanical garden. Hold hands as you walk around and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Also, try to find a bench or spot to sit down and talk. It’s nice to have a conversation without a screaming child or interrupting kids. Check out USF Botanical Gardens, Florida Botanical Gardens or Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.  
  4. Go horseback riding. You don’t have to be an experienced rider to have a great time. Cypress Breeze Farm offer fun adventures on a nature trail or the beach. 
  5. Visit a Farmer’s Market. This is the perfect place to discover new things and support local businesses. You can sample delicious foods and visit different vendors. Check out the Fresh Market at Hyde Park, Seminole Heights Sunday Morning Market, Pierce Street Market or the Saturday Morning Market
  6. Go paddle boarding or kayaking. There’s so many places in the bay area that offer cheap rentals.  
  7.  Go out for brunch. Enjoy some delicious food and specialty cocktails. Many local restaurants offer specials around this time of day.  Take advantage of outdoor seating and places with live music. If you are willing to travel, find a place with a water view. 
  8. Check out a museum. You can plan an afternoon wandering around and learning something new. There are some incredible museums for couples who enjoy art. Visit the Tampa Museum of Art or the Dali Museum for a great experience. If you are not into art, there are some science, cultural and history museums throughout Tampa Bay. 
  9. Play mini-golf. You can play a fun round before eating lunch. Try not to get too competitive. This date is about having fun and being silly. 
  10. Plan a picnic. This is a classic romantic date. You can splurge on a nice meal or take leftovers. Grab a blanket and head to a nice park or your backyard. 
  11. Rent bicycles. There are different places in the downtown Tampa/St. Petersburg area or beach that offer rental bikes.  This is a great way to explore your city and exercise. 
  12. Set sail. The best thing about living in Tampa Bay is close proximity to water. You go on a boat tour or rent a boat for a few hours to sail around the bay. 
  13. Sign up for a cooking class. You can pick up new skills or get new recipes to cook at home.  Sur la table or Publix Aprons Cooking School offer morning and afternoon classes. 
  14. Go on a hot air balloon ride. Feeling adventurous? This is an exciting way to spice up your love life. Big Red Balloon provide private packages for couples. View the bay area from above with your spouse. 
  15. Race go-karts. Tampa Bay Grand Prix offer indoor racing for those in the mood to burn some rubber. 
  16. Sign up for a pottery class. Have some fun with your spouse while showing off your creative side. 
  17. Go on a zip-line tour. Empower Adventures Tampa Bay offer an exciting experience to share with your partner. 
  18. Watch planes at the airport.  You can pack a snack or small lunch and park on the top level of the garage. It’s so nice watching the planes take off and land. While you are there, discuss future vacation plans. 
  19.  Try indoor skydiving. Check out iFly Tampa for a wild but new adventure. 
  20. Visit a local coffee or tea shop.  Try to find a shop that offers outdoor seating so you can people watch. Examine the menu and order something new. 
  21. Go indoor rock climbing. Vertical Ventures is a cool place for novice or expert climbers. 
  22. Plan a scavenger hunt. You can create your own with fun challenges or find a local one.  Check out Big City Hunt to find one in your area.
  23.  Go bowling. It’s a casual date but you can make it a friendly competition. 
  24.  Register for a candle making class. Most of these classes are offered at night but you can call and request one during the day.  Seventh Avenue Apothecary is a local business in Ybor City that offers candle pouring classes. They are currently working on their new schedule so call ahead of time. Also, they host large groups so this perfect for making it a couples date. 
  25. Go to the beach. Spend a few hours relaxing on the sand and listening to the waves. You can stroll along the shore or swim. Don’t forget to rub each other with sunscreen.
